Project Executive

Doug Thompson

As Project Executive, Doug is responsible for managing the design, preconstruction, and project management teams assigned to his projects. His experience is invaluable during the planning phase and he continually monitors the progress and provides ongoing oversight until project completion. He excels at projects built with challenging logistics, tight schedules, complex designs, high-end finishes, historic renovation, and mountain construction.

Over the years, Doug has been involved in many complicated Hyder projects, including the $130 million Vail’s Front Door project, one of the most complicated projects executed in Colorado in the past 20 years. Doug served as the Project Executive and led the preconstruction and construction effort to a wildly successful conclusion, including receiving a prestigious first-place ACE award from AGC Colorado. The project required extensive logistical planning, intricate analysis of thousands of construction details, carefully thought-out subcontractor bidding strategies, and the execution of a complex, extremely high-quality construction project in a mountain environment.

Doug has been with Hyder for more than 28 years and has worked in the industry for more than 40. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He has worked as a project superintendent, project manager, director of preconstruction and knows the challenges of each operational department. In addition, Doug has been managing construction projects in the Colorado mountains and Vail Valley for over 25 years. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who knows more about complex mountain construction!

Continuously Improve

“There are so many things that make Hyder stand out to me, but learning is a life-long commitment. We seek out exciting, interesting and challenging projects. We work with people dedicated to meeting commitments and delivering successful projects. We draw in talented people who are ready to step up and provide support whenever needed. We sincerely focus on family needs and the well-being of those who work here. We provide training and mentoring for our staff to give them the tools to reach as far as they want to go.”

Life Outside Hyder

“Living in Colorado affords many outdoor opportunities. For me skiing and golfing gives me access to play in some of the most beautiful places in the world. My wife and I are both Colorado natives. We have three children and always seem to have Golden Retrievers in tow. Our family enjoys traveling everywhere and anywhere possible and seeks to experience cultures and places different than our own.”
